It's the end of townie summer as Indiana University students move in this weekend , but that's no reason to stay home. Between grand openings, patio parties and Switchyard Park's " Doxie-lympics ," there's plenty of events where you can soak up the good weather we've been having — and we've picked some that are safely far from IU's campus.

Sink into some classic rock at the Sinkhole

Sip on some craft beer and rock out to '70s and '80s music at this patio party hosted at the Sinkhole Craft Beer Bar by local act Don’t Call Me Betty on Friday. Composed of Jacobs School professors, a local optometrist, an Ivy Tech professor and an IU communications director, Don’t Call Me Betty is highly educated in the classic rock canon, from Van Halen to The Cure.

The Sinkhole doesn't sell food, unless you count pretzel sticks in a matchbox, but there will be a food truck on site. Show begins at 7 p.m. The Sinkhole is at 313 E. Winslow Road. Free.

Find out who’s the very best boy at the “Doxie-lympics” Saturday morning at Switchyard Park. Hosted by the Bloomington Dachshund Club, this friendly competition will test who’s all bark and no bite through competitions like distance running, longest “stay,” most tricks and a whipped cream eating contest. The Doxie-lympics are open to all and small breed dogs are welcome to participate.

The event is in Switchyard Park from 10 a.m. to noon. Switchyard Park is at 1601 S. Rogers St. Free.

Go to a ‘badknees’ parking lot party

Bloomington apparel/printing company badknees , known best for their Barbie-style Bloomington sweatshirts and “you can do it” cat tees , is hosting another party in their new storefront parking lot. Similar to their June grand opening party, the “market experiment” will feature art vendors, food trucks, beer, live music and free t-shirt printing (if you bring your own).

The event begins at 11 a.m., with music and t-shirt printing starting at 11:30 a.m. Badknees is at 902 W. Kirkwood Ave. Free.
