A favorite Bloomington restaurant that closed its North College Avenue location in May 2023 has reopened at 405 E. Fourth St. Blooming Thai now is open daily, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.-2 a.m.

Many of the dishes foodies have been missing are on the menu: from pad Thai to pho beef soup to yellow curry with special chicken. Crepe cake — which is a cream puff similar to Italian cannoli — are new and can be ordered with fillings of Thai tea, Thai coffee, custard or taro. Other suggested desserts including mango sticky rice and burnt cheese cake.

The "must try" list suggests trying the pad Thai with crispy chicken, pho noodle soup, drunken fried rice, crying tiger (a spicy appetizer with grilled marinated beef), pumpkin curry and papaya salad. While some people think all Thai food is spicy, Blooming Thai offers heat levels from mild to Thai hot.

Appetizers include crispy spring rolls, crab rangoon, pot stickers, fried calamari, Isan sausage and steamed Thai dumplings. Drinks include bubble tea, Italian soda, smoothies, coffee, tea and strawberry milk.

The new place seats around 20 people inside and has a few more tables outdoors on the front patio.

After the downtown restaurant closed in May 2023, the Little Bowl Thai food truck began serving customers in August 2023, keeping some of the favorite dishes available. Even with the opening of the new restaurant, the food truck will continue operating at Bloomington Food Truck Friday and elsewhere.
