Go fishing without a fishing license this Saturday in Bloomington

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is celebrating National Public Lands Day with a series of events around the state this weekend.

For the outdoorsy types among us you can go fishing without a Indiana fishing license this Saturday and there are several places in central Indiana that you can cast in a line and fish all day.

Here are five places you can go fishing for free in Central Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Free Fishing Day on Saturday in Indiana

Saturday is National Hunting and Fishing Day, and the state DNR is observing it as a Free Fishing Day. In Indiana, residents can fish public waters without a license on Free Fishing Days.

The Indiana DNR notes that for hunters, squirrel, dove, and youth deer seasons are open. A full list of hinting and trapping seasons and regulations can be found here.

Where you can fish for free in Bloomington

There are five places you can fish for free this Saturday to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

• Lake Lemon
• Monroe lake
• Morgan-Monroe State Forest
• Will Detmer Park

Free admission to Indiana DNR properties on Sunday

On Sunday, Sept. 29, there will be free admission to all Indiana Department of Natural Resources properties that normally charge a gate fee.

That means free access to boating, hiking, biking and checking out wildlife on public land.
