Granite Shoals, Humane Society mend differences

The city of Granite Shoals and the Hill Country Humane Society (HCHS) have decided to rekindle a partnership to help the community take care of stray dogs and cats.

Granite Shoals Mayor Ron Munos told The Highlander that the city had signed a contract with the HCHS to accept strays that was “about the same as the contract we had before.” The city will pay the society $30,000 a year for the annual contract, Munos said.

Humane Society board members broke off relations with the city in December after audio of a meeting of the city’s wildlife advisory committee leaked, purportedly advocating internal euthanasia or slaughter of feral cats.

The city responded by forming a separate feral cat committee and removing responsibility for cats from the wildlife advisory committee.

“We’re happy to be working with the Hill Country Humane Society again,” Munos said.
