The mayor of Granite Shoals has issued a proclamation establishing July as “Heritage Oak Tree Celebration Month,” to inspire admiration and appreciation for the many trees preserved throughout the city.

According to the announcement, “Heritage trees are typically large, old trees with unique value and history. They may be unique based on age and size, as well as well as on aesthetic, botanical ecological or historical value.”

The announcement of the community photo contest urges photographers in Granite Shoals to explore the community, use their imagination and submit up to four photos (no larger than 250kb).The rules say the submitted photos must have been taken in Granite Shoals and be your original work (no AI submissions).

You may take photos in any of the city parks or, with prior permission, on private property.

By participating in the contest, you agree to allow the city of Granite Shoals to use your images for promotional purposes in exchange for photo credits and recognition. The announcement also says there’s a chance to win a prize.

So email your photos (or questions) to marketing@graniteshoals. org, with the subject line of Photo Contest; include your full name, your phone number and the title of each photo by the deadline, August 10. Winner will be notified by August 15.
