The Highland Arts Guild & Gallery selected a creative artist who tends to rub you the right way for Artist of the Month.

Judy Kelley’s initial love for art began at an early age. When she watched over her father’s shoulder as he sketched, painted and sometimes designed copper rubbings, she was inspired. Years later, additional inspiration came from Austin artists, such as Mary Lou Ingram, Carole Gibson- Sayle and Canadian artist Brenda Bradford.

The majority of Kelly’’s subjects during her early years of painting depicted Texas landscapes and seascapes.

Demands of her career delayed her freedom to paint for over 30 years. However, not long after retiring, each of her sons requested a painting. That’s all it took to ignite the desire to paint again. She located her assortment of brushes and she now paints fish, fishing flies and lures. Her love for color took her down the path of abstract art. Her most recent abstract paintings represent the use of mixed media with bold colors which reflect her new style of incorporating acrylic paint, ink and pastels. Judy uses a variety of techniques and sometimes a surprise object.

All are welcome to stop by the gallery, 318 Main St. in Marble Falls, and enjoy the paintings on display.
