The Burnet County Commissioners Court recently approved the purchase of new voter software, including more than 40 new “poll books” that will compile and record voter identifications and registrations.

According to county election officials, the new electronic system produced by Voter Focus will be activated during the November election.

“It is so simple to operate,” County Elections Administrator Doug Ferguson told the commissioners during the July 23 meeting. “It is really portable.”

The Voter Focus system is expected to endure at least 10 years before it needs to be replaced or updated, Ferguson added.

County Judge James Oakley mentioned a grant of $150,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 will pay for the new software. Also, the judge praised Ferguson and his election adminis - tration associates. "I have all the con - fidence in the world in Doug and all the work they do," Oakley said.
