Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has requested an unclassified phone briefing for all senators from the Department of Justice, FBI and Secret Service on the assassination attempt against former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally over the weekend.

The 30-minute briefing will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Schumer received a briefing on the shooting, which left one person dead and two other rallygoers seriously injured, over the weekend

He announced the phone briefing for all senators after Senate Homeland Security Committee Chair Gary Peters (D-Mich.) said he would begin a bipartisan investigation into the incident.

Peters told reporters Monday that senators on his committee were receiving detailed briefings from law enforcement officials.

And he said he spoke at length with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday and received an FBI briefing Monday.

Peters also said he would try “expedite” a public hearing on the shooting before the end of the month.

“I’m focused on starting this bipartisan investigation, find out exactly what happened and make sure it never happens again,” he said earlier in the week. “We have to make sure that the Secret Service and other law enforcement have the resources to protect presidents and former presidents as well as other elected officials.”
