Carville: Trump says ‘one idiotic thing after another’

    • Harris’ low profile is good politics, says veteran Democratic strategist
    • Former Burgum spokesperson says Trump at least discussing issues
    • Carville: Trump’s Wednesday speech, Musk interview, were ‘fiasco’

(NewsNation) — Former President Trump is doing speeches, news conferences and rallies, while Vice President Harris has kept a low profile for a couple of days. Is that wise? Yes, says veteran Democratic strategist James Carville.

“It’s kind of a rule in politics (that) if your opponent is drowning, throw him an anvil,” Carville said in an interview on NewsNation’s “CUOMO” Wednesday.

“He sounds like a barker at a strip club on Bourbon Street.” he added, referencing Trump’s Wednesday speech in which the former president mixed pledges to slash energy prices and “unleash economic abundance” with familiar off-script tangents on Harris’ laugh, the mechanics of wind energy and President Biden’s son Hunter Biden.

“He just comes out with one idiotic thing after another,” Carville said.

“I think he was hovering over the target,” countered Lance Trover, the former press secretary for North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum`s (R) presidential campaign, who also blasted Harris for her refusal to do any in-depth interviews since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee.

“She can keep going around the country and avoiding reporters … and walking back every one of her crazy left-wing positions out there. I’m guessing that when voters start keying into this election, they’re not gonna be having any of it,” Trover added.

Regarding Trump’s Wednesday comments on the border crisis, NewsNation host Chris Cuomo suggested that the former president is making a mistake in calling for mass deportations, but Trover said the idea is a winner.

“The country is completely outraged on this issue. There are a lot of people who are completely fine with mass deportations. He’s at least proposing solutions, which we’re not getting from the vice president right now, he added.

Carville said Harris doesn’t have to do anything “as long as he’s (Trump) out there running his mouth, slurring everything, his dentures falling out and whatever else is going on with him.”

“That thing today was a fiasco like I’ve never seen before. Then you had that Elon Musk fiasco,” Carville added, referring to Tuesday’s glitch-plagued conversation between Trump and X owner Musk.
