Speculation swirled about a possible surprise appearance by Beyoncé during the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

An appearance by the superstar has not been confirmed. Still, chatter over the possibility of her taking the stage was already filling the floor of the United Center as Democrats gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the nomination of Vice President Harris.

Oregon delegate Stephanie Newton-Azorr, who was on the floor as the event kicked off, said she heard the rumors and predicted that if Beyoncé were to perform, she would sing “Freedom,” which is also the theme song of Harris’s campaign.

“I know she can also mobilize her fan base and help turn out the vote,” Newton-Azorr said. “People listen to Beyoncé. They listen when she speaks.”

Nick Hutchins, who works for the progressive firm Swing Left, posted on social media earlier Thursday that he had heard the band at the convention rehearsing songs from the singer, including “Cuff It.”

A stand-in singer sang the lyrics, according to a video he posted on the social platform X.

Emmy Ruiz, the White House’s political director, fueled the speculation Thursday when she posted on social media a bee emoji — interpreted by many as a reference to Beyoncé, who’s known as “Queen B” by her fans.

“Sorry guys my 6 year old took my phone,” Ruiz posted.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), who is speaking Thursday night, also said he had heard the rumors.

“I don’t know … Yeah, sure,” Kinzinger said, when asked whether he was excited about a possible Beyoncé appearance.
