Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) made an appearance at the Minnesota State Fair on Sunday, marking his first attendance as the vice presidential nominee.

“No better place than the Minnesota State Fair,” he wrote on the social platform X.

Walz posted several photos and a video on X of him attending the Minnesota State Fair, including several shots of him taking photos with the workers and handing out ice cream cones. This comes more than a week after he accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to be Vice President Harris’s running mate last month.

He posted a video of himself with a pork chop on a stick to X.

“All right, Minnesota breakfast of champions: pork chop on a stick. I’ve traveled to a lot of state fairs. While Iowa has a nice one, it does not compare with Minnesota. And the pork chops here — the best,” he said in the video .

The Associated Press reported Walz attended the fair alongside his wife, Gwen, and their daughter, Hope. The news service detailed how Walz surveyed many of the food vendors, many of which were offering some sort of food on a stick.

The AP reported that Walz acknowledged his presence may have brought more disruption than usual for the state fair, but he thought the attention was a chance to promote his state’s culture.

“I think people are seeing that we’re getting to talk about Minnesota across the country, talk about the economy here, talk about things like the state fair, talk about agriculture,” Walz said, according to AP.

WCCO, a CBS News station in Minnesota, reported that Walz’s visit lasted just more than a half hour as the Secret Service and local law enforcement surveyed the area. He served milkshakes and ice cream to visitors at the Dairy Building, according to the outlet.

    The Associated Press contributed.
