Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton (R) responded Sunday to former Vice President Dick Cheney’s backing of Vice President Harris in the 2024 election.

“You have Dick Cheney endorsing a Democrat, and you have a Kennedy endorsing a Republican,” Cotton said on CNN’s “State of the Union” to anchor Dana Bash. “I think what it tells us is that there’s a lot of ferment in American politics.”

“But in the end, endorsements are not going to make the difference in this race,” the Arkansas senator continued.

The former vice president said in a statement Friday that “in our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”

“He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again,” Cheney continued.

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution,” he added. “That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

In his CNN interview, Cotton said the 2024 race for the White House is “very unusual.”

“We have a former president running for office, first time in more than a hundred years,” Cotton said.

The former vice president’s daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), also stated she is voting for Harris only a few days before her father did.

The younger Cheney said, “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
