Comstock knocks Trump for profanity-laced remarks at Al Smith dinner: ‘Who does that?

Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) slammed former President Trump for his profanity at Thursday’s Al Smith dinner, a Catholic charity banquet.

“This is somebody who’s just being horrendous at that dinner,” Comstock said on CNN on Friday morning. “Swearing in front of priests. Who does that? That is just a hot, horrible mess. We need to turn the page.”

During his speech at the banquet, which is traditionally attended by both presidential nominees, Trump slammed Vice President Harris, her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), and her husband Doug Emhoff, among others.

Harris did not attend the dinner and instead opted to campaign in the battleground state of Wisconsin. She addressed the event via a video that featured comedian Molly Shannon.

The dinner traditionally includes good-natured jokes on both sides of the aisle, but Trump did not make any jokes about himself throughout the course of the evening.

“Tradition holds that I’m supposed to tell a few self-deprecating jokes this evening,” he said. “So here it goes — nope. I’ve got nothing. I’ve got nothing. There’s nothing to say.”

During her CNN interview, Comstock emphasized Trump’s pattern of criticizing women, citing his attack on former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley when he called her “birdbrain.”

“He daily attacks women and calls them names,” she said. “He has never apologized for any of that.”

Meanwhile, Comstock praised Harris for her campaign methods.

“The vice president has really run a flawless campaign, and she is being inclusive,” Comstock said.
