The Fennville girls soccer team defeated Black River 1-0 in the first round of the Division 4 district tournament on Friday.

Elizabeth Guzman scored the lone goal of the game on an assist by Eileen Perez.

Abby Gonzalez registered the shutout in goal.

"Ithzel Hernandez and Christina Mendoza played great on the defensive side to help control Black River's offense," Fennville coach Mark Gray said.

The Blackhawks avenged a 2-1 loss to Black River during the regular season.

"After losing in the regular season on a last-second goal, we spent time discussing playing our game and keeping our composure," Gray said. "Black River has some solid playes in the middle that we did a better job tracking and now allowing too much space to beat us. Offensively, we needed to be more aggressive on the attack and put the pressure on their defense. Elizabeth did exactly what we asked and put the pressre on and capitalized on a mistake because of that."

Fennville will face Bloomindgale on Tuesday in the semifinals at home.

Calvin Christian 4, Saugatuck 3, OT

The Saugatuck girls soccer team lost 4-3 to Grandville Calvin Christian on Friday in the first round.

Saugatuck sophomore Neave Rewa scored her school-record 22nd goal of the season for the second year in a row, giving her the career record of 44 with two years to go.

Jenn Schock and Alina Martinson each added a goal, while Schock and Avery Smith provided assists.

Calvin Christian will play Byron Center Zion Christian in the semifinals on Tuesday at Fennville.
