Holland soccer stuns defending state champion Unity Christian; Maroons top Hamilton

The Holland boys soccer team stunned defending state champion Hudsonville Unity Christian 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The Dutch improved to 5-1 on the season.

Armando Gonzales, scored the first goal for Holland on a header off a pass from Odis Fickel. Fickel scored on a penalty shot and Josiah VanHekken scored on a pass from Luis Parra.

"Unity Christian is an excellent program," Holland coach Greg Ceithaml said. "As defending state champions, we knew this was going to be a challenge. I liked the way our team defended and transitioned. We are happy with the result, but we know we have to stay focused on improvement."

Holland Christian 2, Hamilton 0

In another rivalry matchup on Wednesday, the Maroons defeated the Hawkeyes 2-0.

Ruben Plaggemars and Ben Becksvoort scored for Holland Christian.
