    TEDxMacatawa will return to Holland with great ideas in October

    HOLLAND — TEDxMacatawa will return for the seventh year to Holland on Tuesday, Oct. 8, this time in the Jack H. Miller Center at Hope College.

    The half-day event will see 13 diverse topics discussed by presenters who are given no more than 18 minutes to cover topics like housing, healthcare, business, artificial intelligence and education.

    This year, Robyn Schopp, who presented last year, will emcee the event. Presenters include:

    • Andy Bass: When AI Dreams, Who’s Responsible for the Nightmares?
    • Harle Battjes: Seeing Potential: Trailer Trash Upcycled
    • Kurt Lindberg: You Get What You Pay For: Transforming the U.S. Healthcare System
    • Leah Cooper: A Community-Based Approach to Refugee Resettlement
    • Josh Wymore: The Hidden Power of Humbler Leadership
    • Lindsay MacMillan: The Unifying Power of Fiction
    • Chris Knobloch: The Power of Puppetry
    • Laurie Ayers: Getting Old Isn’t Funny, But We Are
    • Cort Corwin: Solutions Won’t Solve Our Creativity Crisis, Problems Will
    • Lauren Andersh: Designing Our Future Without Forgetting Our Past
    • Mason Viilo: The Evolution of Instruments Through Technology, and Its Effect on Western Music
    • Alexis Rosado: The Power of Media
    • Charlie Duistermars: Mac and Cheese, and Jesus Please

    Licenseholder Vince Boileau of Boileau Communications said this year’s selection committee had to choose from over 90 applicants.

    “It's a difficult process ... because we still have to leave a number of great ideas on the table,” Boileau said. “However, we have a process for reaching back out to those who were a close call to see if they'd be up for pitching again the following year.”

    Previous events were held in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023 in Holland.

    The event kicks off at 1 p.m. and runs through 5:30 p.m. and includes an afterparty at the Haworth Hotel. Registration is now open for $35, closing on Oct. 2. Learn more at tedxmacatawa.org .
