Oct. 11: Holland area principals, staffers name exceptional students

Another week, another collection of excellent local students.

Each week, we'll share our list of Students of the Week, nominated by local high school principals and staff. The honorees will be shared online Fridays and in print Sundays.

From impressive classroom performance to volunteerism, here are The Sentinel’s Students of the Week for Oct. 11:

Meet the Class of 10/11

Caedmon Kephart, West Ottawa High School

Caedmon’s commitment to a positive school culture through his work in our drama and music program, all while being involved in dual enrollment and the many higher level courses we offer at West Ottawa, is inspiring. He embodies realistic self-confidence. He knows how to take constructive criticism, sets realistic goals, and is aware of his strengths and weaknesses. He is an exemplary student at WO.

Emma Drnek, Zeeland East High School

Emma is an exceptionally well-rounded student. She's part of the Teacher Academy, a member of ZLinks, and a cross-country star.

Samantha (Sami) DeVries, Holland Christian High School

Samantha has always been hard working, dedicated and very mature for her age. She participates in many varied activities outside of school, including volunteering, robotics and theater, and is so easy to have in class. This spring, she was awarded a National Community Service Ambassador Award through the United Nations Association for her community volunteering. Furthermore, Sami is innovative, often unsung, brilliant and humble. We're proud of the way she continues to grow as a person in and outside the classroom.
