    Week 8 high school football: Holland wins in final minute to keep playoff hopes alive

    Week 8 of the high school football season is in the books.

    Most of the Holland-area teams are still alive for the playoffs with one week of the regular season remaining. Here is a look at what happened on Friday.

    Holland 27, Fruitport 23

    The Dutch remained in the playoff hunt with a thrilling come-from-behind win on the road.

    Holland's Jacob Torres scored a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:26 to play to give the Dutch the win.

    Amari Powell connected with Tailen Luna for two passing touchdowns. Torres rushed for two TDs. Ashor Folkert kicked a 42-yard field goal on the last play of the first half.

    Holland is 4-4 and will face Godwin Heights in the regular-season finale. To make the playoffs, the Dutch will need a win and some help from some other teams in Division 4.

    Northview 35, Holland Christian 20

    The Maroons dropped to 6-2 and 4-2 in the OK Blue with the defeat.

    Holland Christian faces Grand Rapids Christian in the regular-season finale.

    Lawton 26, Saugatuck 10

    The Trailblazers lost the SAC game and dropped to 5-3.

    Cass Stanberry had 28 rushes for 191 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, he had seven tackles, including three for losses.

    Cam Lewis hit a 37-yard field goal and an extra point.

    Chris Foley had eight tackles and a sack. Max Page had seven tackles, including one for a loss.

    "I'm proud of the kids and how they competed this week," Saugatuck coach Bill Dunn said. "Great effort against a very good Lawton team. Despite the loss, a complete turnaround from the previous week. Lots of good things to build on."

    West Catholic 54, Hamilton 14

    The Hawkeyes lost the OK White came and dropped to 5-3 and 3-2 in the conference.

    The Hawkeyes struggled on third downs, going 2-for-12.

    Brooks Hawkins had 70 rushing yards and Grant Petroelje had 109 passing yards.

    Hamilton faces Zeeland East next week in the regular-season finale with a possible playoff spot on the line.

    Grandville 38, West Ottawa 3

    The Panthers dropped to 1-7 after the road loss in the OK Red.

    Quinn Basselin hit a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

    Grandville scored 21 points in the second quarter to take control.

    Makai Campos was 10-for-19 passing for 109 yards with two interceptions. Caleb Montgomery had 13 carries for 62 yards.

    Tai Hescott made seven tackles and Jake Gerrits had 6.5.

    Unity Christian 56, Zeeland East 14

    The Chix dropped the OK Gold game after trailing 42-0 at halftime.

    Zeeland East came out in the second half with a 59-yard pass from Will Drnek to Isaiah Boonstra and then a 16-yard touchdown run by Eli Walcott to get the Chix on the board.

    Boonstra scored on a 33-yard slant pass from Drnek.

    Martin 63, Fennville 6

    The Blackhawks dropped to 3-4 with the loss in 8-person football.

    The Blackhawks allowed 35 points in the first quarter and couldn't recover.

    Makai Weimer scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Rosema. Rosema had 19 rushes for 39 yards and was 4-for-9 passing for 75 yards with a TD and an interception. Ely Schut had one catch for 54 yards.
