The 2024 MTV VMAs is moving back a day and will now take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11 instead of the previously announced Tuesday, Sept. 10. The move is an effort to avoid having the VMAs air opposite the Sept. 10 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

The 2024 VMAs will continue to be held at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island and will air live on MTV at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Additionally Monday, the VMAs announced the first round of performers for this year’s awards show including Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla and Rauw Alejandro.

The 2024 VMAs last week announced the nominees for this year’s awards. Taylor Swift leads with 10 nominations, followed by Post Malone with nine and Ariana Grande, Eminem and Carpenter with six each. GloRilla and Alejandro each received three nominations while Chappell Roan, a first-time nominee, is up for best new artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year. Cabello is nominated for best pop.

Carpenter will make her VMAs main stage debut this year after performing during the preshow in 2012. Cabello will perform on the VMAs for the third time, offering up a song from her fourth studio album, C, XOXO . Chappell Roan is making her first-ever awards show performance on the VMAs stage. GloRilla will make her VMAs debut while Alejandro will also offer a debut performance from his forthcoming fifth studio album.

ABC, which is hosting the presidential debate, revealed last week that both Harris and Trump have agreed to the Sept. 10 debate , the fate of which had been up in the air after Trump seemed reluctant to participate in the face-off that had been set up in May with President Joe Biden , who was then the Democratic presidential candidate. Biden dropped his re-election bid last month and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee. Last week, she secured the necessary delegates to be the Democratic nominee.
