Meet the men of the Golden Bachelorette.

ABC Names Second Black 'Bachelor' for Season 29

The eligible group of seniors who will be competing for the heart of star Joan Vassos, 61, have been revealed. When the anticipated first season kicks off Sept. 18 on ABC, there will be 24 contestants competing for Vassos’ final rose.

“Age is just a number and romance is timeless,” says ABC in the announcement.

Vassos, whose husband died from pancreatic cancer after 32 years of marriage, will lead the first-ever senior spinoff with a Bachelorette at the helm, following the inaugural Golden Bachelor season with Gerry Turner. Vassos’ time on the Golden Bachelor was cut short after she eliminated herself during week three over a medical concern with her daughter.

The Golden Bachelor was a ratings boon for the long-running ABC and Warner Horizon-produced Bachelor franchise, and the team behind the reality dating juggernaut is hoping for a repeat performance. When speaking previously to The Hollywood Reporter about how a female-led Golden series would be different, the executive producers had mused, “What is it going to be like with 20-some older men living in the Bachelor Mansion? We don’t know, but I’m pretty sure it will be different and interesting. And that’s what makes me want to watch.”

Now that the men who will be bunking together in the mansion have been revealed, ABC describes the group as “distinguished men in their golden era [who] will step into the spotlight, eager to find an everlasting love.”

Vassos, meanwhile, is a mother of four, grandmother of three and school administrator who ABC says finds “solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog and cooking. Now, as she steps into the golden spotlight and begins her journey to seek love once more, Vassos envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family.”

The Golden Bachelorette premieres Sept 18 at 8 p.m., with next-day streaming on Hulu. The franchise then returns in 2025 with new seasons of The Bachelor — and its newly announced lead Grant Ellis as the second-ever Black Bachelor — and Bachelor in Paradise. The Bachelorette ‘s 21st season with Jenn Tran, the first Asian American lead, is currently airing.

The Golden Bachelorette is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Claire Freeland, Bennett Graebner, Andrew Frank and Jason Ehrlich are executive producers.
