Anya Taylor-Joy is returning to screens on Netflix.

The actress, known for roles in Furiosa: A Mad Max Story , The Menu and Last Night in Soho , will play the lead role of the murderous Grace Bernard in an adaptation of Bella Mackie’s novel How to Kill Your Family .

Taylor-Joy previously led The Queen’s Gambit for Netflix , a chess thriller that placed in the top 10 in 92 countries on Netflix and ranked No. 1 in 63 countries, including the U.K., Argentina and South Africa. Sixty-two million accounts tuned in over the first 28 days of its release.

Mackie serves as co-executive producer on the eight-episode series from Sid Gentle Films Ltd, which also produced Killing Eve . Her book follows the story of Grace, the illegitimate daughter of a millionaire who abandoned her and her mother, ignoring her mother’s pleas for help as she was close to dying. Grace vows revenge and decides to kill every member of her father’s family, leaving him for last.

The show’s lead writer, Emma Moran, worked on Extraordinary and serves as an executive producer alongside Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Film, as well as Taylor-Joy for LadyKiller.

Taylor-Joy said: “As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life. After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team that is Sally, Lizzie and Emma. I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier.”

Mackie added: “It’s been thrilling to watch the characters I wrote take on new life under this magnificent creative team. Anya is the most perfect fit to play Grace: I often think she understands her better than I do. Pairing up with Sid Gentle has been joyful, and introducing me to Emma has made me supremely confident the book is in safe hands.”

The news was unveiled at Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday alongside a slate of other Netflix projects . Further cast and other details will be announced in due course.
