Matt Bomer Says ‘White Collar’ Reboot Script Is “Fantastic” and Pays Tribute Willie Garson

While the White Collar revival hasn’t officially been greenlit yet, there is a script and, according to star Matt Bomer, it’s “fantastic.”

The Emmy-nominated Fellow Travelers star spoke to People about the reboot and his hopes for it coming to life.

“[The script is] completely in line and in keeping with the show that we were able to do six seasons of,” Bomer told the publication. “It really just feels like he was able to pick up the right where we left off.”

He continued, “It’s a really intelligent, fun, organic way to bring all the characters back together to pay tribute to Willie Garson, Diahann Carroll and folks we’ve lost since the show ended, which was really important to me. It’s something that if you enjoyed the show, you really will have a good time watching it.”

The decision to move forward with the revival is above Bomer’s pay grade, he noted. However, he shared that he’s excited about possibly reprising his role as white collar criminal turned FBI consultant Neal Caffrey and reuniting with his co-stars, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen.

“So much of that experience was just being with that group of people,” the Maestro actor said, adding that DeKay, who portrayed FBI special agent Peter Burke, is still his close friend. “We worked long hours on that show, and it never felt like work. It was just such a fun, free, open environment and a great place to just create and explore the characters.”

Bomer previously opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about the White Collar reboot and how it’s out of his control. However, the show has been doing well on Netflix since it was added to the streamer earlier this year.

“Maybe that will incentivize some folks,” he said, adding, “Willie Garson was one of my closest friends, and so obviously it’s a terrible loss for all of us, and I miss him. And the most important thing to me was, how would we do it without Willie?”

While the Magic Mike actor admitted he couldn’t see how the show could be revived without its beloved Mozzie, played by Garson, White Collar creator Jeff Eastin “came up with some interesting ideas that pay homage to him,” which made Bomer excited to return as Neal.
