Kerry Washington Leads Women’s Army Corps Unit of Color in Tyler Perry’s ‘The Six Triple Eight’ WWII Film Teaser

Netflix has shared the teaser for Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight .

The film, which was written, directed and produced by Perry, stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the first Black woman to be appointed as an officer in the Women’s Army Corps. “Soldiers, you must be perfect,” the commanding officer advises her all-women unit. “You do not have the luxury to be good; you have the burden to be better.”

“Look alive, ladies!,” Major Adams tells her troops as they go through grueling training. “I need women who had to fight to survive.”

“I am giving you my best and you will give me yours,” she adds. “A lot of people do not want us to succeed. We have the most to prove. Welcome to the Women’s Army Corps.”

In a tweet sharing the teaser, Perry wrote, “You have no idea what it means to me to have been given the grace and the blessing to be able to tell THIS story! Every detail is dedicated to the memory of the 855 black women and women of color of the Six Triple Eight. When America needed hope, they delivered!”

The Six Triple Eight is based on Kevin M. Hymel’s article “Fighting A Two-Front War,” featured in WWII History Magazine . The synopsis details that the film is “inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.”

Besides Washington, the cast is rounded up by Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Jay Reeves, Jeffery Johnson, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Donna Biscoe, Gregg Sulkin, Scott Daniel Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston and Oprah Winfrey.

Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig, Carlota Espinosa join Perry as producers, with Peter Guber and Washington serving as co-executive producers.

The Six Triple Eight hits select theaters on Dec. 6 and will be available to stream on Netflix on Dec. 20.
