Tyler Perry Netflix Series ‘Beauty in Black’ Gets Release Date, Trailer

The contrasting lives of different women played by Taylor Polidore Williams and Crystle Stewart become intertwined by intrigue, fast cars and romance in the official trailer for Beauty in Black , Tyler Perry’s first drama for Netflix.

Though they have diverging paths in life — Acrimony star Stewart as Mallory has riches running her own business, while Williams’ Kimmie struggles after her mother kicked her out — their characters soon become enmeshed.

“Her family owns all of this,” Kimmie tells a friend at one point in the teaser trailer (below), as split screens show her and Mallory hustling in similar ways, as one struggles to survive and the other strives for success.

The Perry series is part of his overall deal with the streamer. The 16-episode, hourlong drama is written, directed and produced by Perry.

Beauty in Black will release in two parts, with the first eight episodes dropping Oct. 24. A release date for Part 2 has not yet been announced.

Perry created the TV drama with strong Black leads that include Amber Reign Smith as Rain, Ricco Ross as Horace, Debbi Morgan as Olivia, Richard Lawson as Norman, Steven G. Norfleet as Charles and Julian Horton as Roy.

The ensemble cast also has Terrell Carter as Varney, Shannon Wallace as Calvin, Bryan Tanaka as Officer Alex, Joy Rovaris as Gillian, Xavier Smalls as Angel, Charles Malik Whitfield as Jules, Tamera “Tee” Kissen as Body, Ursula O. Robinson as Delinda, Ashley Versher as Lena and George Middlebrook as Officer Trackson.

Perry produces along with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland for Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios.

The upcoming release of Beauty in Black follows Netflix and the ever-busy Perry unveiling a multiyear, first-look TV series deal that came on top of an earlier feature film production partnership.
