[This story includes spoilers for Abbott Elementary season three.]

Abbott Elementary fans won’t have to wait very long to learn where Quinta Brunson’s Janine and Tyler James Williams’ Gregory stand after that cliffhanger ending in the season three finale .

The final moments of the show’s previous installment saw Gregory and Janine finally take their will-they-won’t-they relationship to the next level with a passionate kiss.

Williams stopped by The Hollywood Reporter and SAG-AFTRA’s annual Emmys N ominees Night event on Friday. When asked what he could tease about their love story in season four, the Emmy nominee for the hit ABC comedy remained mostly mum on the details but did share an interesting tidbit.

“You’re definitely gonna get an answer about what’s going on with them. What is this now? That’s one thing I can promise. You’ll know in the first episode,” he told THR of the premiere, which airs on ABC on Oct. 9. “That’s for sure. We decided let’s give this an actual, not necessarily a punctuation mark because it never really is that, but at least a concert answer. You’ll get that for sure.”

Like most fans of the series, Williams also found himself thinking, “Finally!” after he first read Gregory and Janine’s kiss in the script for Abbott Elementary’s season three finale .

“At some point, when you’re living in the skin of the character, you begin to feel the anxiety build as well. So, it was really nice to be able to go, ‘OK, we can just pop the cork off this, and see what happens,'” he said, adding that the immediate next step was figuring out how their moment would be different from every other will-they-won’t-they in pop culture.

The actor’s Emmy nomination this year marks his third in a row for his take on Gregory in Brunson’s award-winning sitcom , and he admitted the recognition never gets old.

“There’s a lot of really good TV out there, so the fact that we’re nominated and considered and celebrated, it’s always super special,” he said. “And I think everyone works so hard every year that we never see each other, so it’s a really good time to see your friends and people you worked with before.”

Abbott Elementary received eight other Emmy nominations . In addition to Williams’ for best supporting actor in a comedy, the show also garnered nods for best comedy series, actress in a comedy series, for supporting actress in a comedy series, directing for a comedy and writing for a comedy, among others.

The 2024 Emmys, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy , air Sunday, Sept. 15, on ABC from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET.
