FX’s The Bear has achieved notable wins throughout the 2024 Emmys , even making history and setting a new record.
'The Bear' Wins First of What Will Likely Be Many Awards to Start the Emmys
Ahead of the ceremony, the FX series, starring Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, set a new record for nominations in a single year in the comedy category with 23 noms. The record was previously held by 30 Rock with 22 nominations in 2009.
The series, created by Christopher Storer, was the second-most nominated series for this year’s Emmys with nods for best comedy series, writing for a comedy series, casting and guest actor noms for Jon Bernthal, Bob Odenkirk and Will Poulter, as well as Olivia Colman and Jamie Lee Curtis for guest actress in a comedy series.
With its wins thus far this award season, the series has set a new record for most wins in a single season for a comedy with 11, besting its own tally from last year when it won 10.
For Sunday night’s show, Moss-Bachrach won for supporting actor in a comedy series, his second in the category for the show. Meanwhile, White also won the Emmy for actor in a comedy series.
“This show [ The Bear ] has changed my life; it has instilled a faith that change is possible… you’re never actually alone,” White said when accepting his award.
Liza Colón-Zayas won her first Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy series, making history as she became the first Latina to win in the category . When accepting the award, she admitted she didn’t write a speech because she didn’t think it would “be possible” to win given she was “in the presence” of fellow nominees Meryl Streep, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Carol Burnett.
“And to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing me and vote. Vote for your rights,” she ended her speech with.
Storer took home the Emmy for best directing for the “Fishes” episode.
Meanwhile, both Bernthal and Curtis won the Emmy in their respective categories during the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend.

“Helped people help people, and I think that’s really the strength of The Bear ,” Curtis said in her acceptance speech. “To be the source of someone’s pain is really difficult, yet to watch these groups of people come together and work it out is astonishing to me at this point in my life.” Bernthal wasn’t in attendance to accept his award.
During their opening monologue , hosts Dan and Eugene Levy quipped about the ongoing debate that has followed the series of whether it is, in fact, a comedy series.
“I love the show and I know some of us might be expecting us to make a joke about whether The Bea r is really a comedy but in the true spirit of The Bear , we will not be making any jokes,” he said with Edebiri laughing and visibly approving of the joke.
Original Saturday Night Live castmember and Hannah Einbinder’s mother Laraine Newman took to social media to express frustration over the FX series’ comedy wins. Colón-Zayas had also won the Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy series which Einbinder was nominated in.
“Every time I think about The Bear being in the comedy category for the Emmys I can feel an ulcer developing,” Newman tweeted .
The Bear did not win in the best comedy series category. Hacks , starring Jean Smart and Einbinder won.
After The Bear premiered its third season, Hulu announced that the third season scored the show’s biggest audience yet with 5.4 million views worldwide over its first four days of release (it premiered June 27).
The Emmys aired live from L.A.’s Peacock Theater on ABC. Eugene and Dan Levy hosted.
