‘Agatha All Along’ Premiere Becomes ‘Parks and Recreation’ Reunion

Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza debuted their new Disney+ series Agatha All Along in Los Angeles on Monday, where some special guests made an appearance.

Amy Poehler and Adam Scott, who worked alongside both actresses in Parks and Recreation , turned up on the purple carpet, first stopping to take photos with Plaza and then meeting up with Hahn on the press line. Poehler was also spotted taking plenty of her own photos, including a selfie with both of the Agatha stars.

In the hit comedy series, which ran from 2009 to 2015, Poehler and Scott starred as married couple Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt, with Plaza as cynical city employee April Ludgate and Hahn as a frequent guest star in the role of Washington D.C. political whiz Jen Barkley.

Hahn told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet that working with Plaza on the new Marvel series “was a dream. We had never had any scenes together in Parks and Rec , I think we passed each other in hallways, but for this to be the first time we really worked together was incredible. I think she’s such an extraordinary actor so to be able to play with her like this was so fun.”

Agatha All Along continues the story of Agatha Harkness (Hahn) that began in WandaVision , as the witch embarks on a quest to reclaim her former powers and form a new coven of witches. There is also a large musical element to the series after the success of Hahn’s “Agatha All Along” song from WandaVision .

Creator Jac Schaeffer, who was also behind WandaVision , said she knew the new series would be a musical “from the absolute very beginning. There was no way we were going to do an Agatha show without a musical element given that her song took off so incredibly in WandaVision and Kathryn’s so musical,” as well as another chance to work with songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Schaeffer added that the new show is similar to WandaVision in that “there’s a lot of twists and turns, a lot of mystery, a lot of reveals. There’s a lot of genre pastiche, allusions to familiar pop culture things. And the ways that it’s different, it’s really spooky, it’s dark, our lead is not always nice. But even WandaVision , I’m always interested in kind of throwing away the binary of the good and evil. Everybody’s got a little bit inside of them — but let’s be honest, Agatha’s a little more evil than she is nice.”

The series also went through three name changes before finally settling on the current one, with previous versions as Agatha: House of Harkness , Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries .

Of the final version, Hahn said, her character “was behind the whole thing — all the name changes, everything, she was the one. And I think that she’s always had kind of main character energy the whole time.”

Agatha All Along , which also stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Patti LuPone, Ali Ahn and Debra Jo Rupp, starts streaming Wednesday on Disney+.
