Seth Meyers is bringing his comedy to HBO.

The NBC Late Night host will release Seth Meyers: Dad Man Walking on Saturday, Oct. 26. The stand-up special, his first for HBO, was taped in front of a live audience in June at The Vic Theatre in Chicago.

Unlike Meyers’ late night perch, where he’s heavily focused on politics and world events, the HBO hour centers squarely on his personal life. Or, as its logline reads, “from the chaos of raising three young kids, to navigating different communication styles in marriage, to the proper way to cross the street in New York City.” When the special, which will also stream on Max, was first announced in July, Meyers joked, “Critics say it’s the special my kids will be talking about in therapy 20 years from now!”

His last hour, Lobby Baby , was famously personal as well. In fact, he managed to turn the messy birth of his second of three children in the lobby of his New York City apartment building into high comedy. It was released on Netflix in 2019 and was later nominated for an Emmy.

The news of Meyers’ latest comes as stand-up specials have found themselves in heavy demand, as new entrants like Hulu elbow into the marketplace. To date, HBO has differentiated itself from the bigger, more volume-focused competitors like Netflix by selling itself as a more curated destination for prestige comedy.

Dad Man Walking was directed by comedy vet Neal Brennan, who also directed Lobby Baby, and was executive produced by Meyers and Mike Shoemaker, his Late Night showrunner and partner in Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions. Like his first, Meyers’ second hour is produced by Irwin Entertainment.
