¡Azúcar! Gloria Calderón Kellett is setting up shop at Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group — and, in the process, getting access to exclusive rights to develop television and film content for the Celia Cruz Estate.

Hyphenate Media Group , launched just a year ago by two of the most powerful Latinos in Hollywood, has been identifying talent such as Calderón Kellett to bring on board. In their strategic investment in her GloNation production shingle, the first of many planned talent partnerships for Hyphenate, the prolific showrunner, producer, director, playwright and actress will now develop and produce content for them across platforms.

“I am thrilled about this deal with Cris, Eva, and Hyphenate Media Group,” Calderón Kellet said in a statement. “Throughout my career, I’ve been in a number of overall deals with great companies, but they never quite met my ambition. I don’t just want GloNation to make content for one buyer, I want to create and produce content for all buyers both independently and with partners. The infrastructure offered by Hyphenate will help accelerate GloNation’s growth like never before.”

Longoria, Hyphenate’s co-founder and chief creative officer, made similar comments to THR about past overall deals not servicing her ambitions after launching the group last October.

Sources say Calderón Kellett opted not to renew her most recent overall deal with Amazon when it expired in 2023. She launched two series during her tenure, the rom-com With Love and dark comedy The Horrors of Dolores Roach . And while she came into the pact with an ambitious development slate, the streamer ultimately only filmed the two short lived series.

“Gloria’s storytelling has a combination of heart, humor, and universality that is unmatched, so naturally, we have had a partnership with her in our sights since we first launched Hyphenate,” said CEO Cris Abrego , before echoing his incubator’s mandate to service creator ambitions. “Our intention is to help her scale GloNation as an independent content company that delivers premium content in every genre, in every format, and for all audiences. She has already been working closely with our team, who runs point for her business, while she focuses on servicing multiple active projects and developing her content slate.”

That slate will no doubt include projects focused on Celia Cruz. GloNation is partnering with production company Uncontained Media to make content about the late Cuban singer, dubbed the “Queen of Salsa,” for the Celia Cruz Estate — a deal that Hyphenate Media Group brokered. (Calderón Kellett is a Cuban-American, herself.)

“Gloria has been one of my dearest friends for more that 20 years,” added Longoria, “and I have always believed in and supported her voice and vision. Being in a position now to invest in her business and to provide the capital and infrastructure to supercharge her growth and impact is incredibly meaningful to me. She is a generational talent, and I am just thrilled to be on this journey with her as a partner.”

Prior to migrating to Amazon, Calderón Kellett served as co-showrunner alongside Mike Royce on the celebrated reimagining of Norman Lear’s One Day at a Time . The multi-camera sitcom, filmed in front of a live audience like the original, reimagined the working class single mom set-up in with a Cuban-American family in Los Angeles. It starred Rita Moreno, Isabella Gomez and frequent Calderón Kellett collaborator Justina Machado. Her other writing and producing credits include comedies How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement and Devious Maids .

In March, Calderón Kellett debuted her stageplay One of the Good Ones at the Pasadena Playhouse to rave reviews. It heads to San Diego for a month-long engagement in 2025.

She is repped by UTA and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
