Sadie Sink will star in the new Broadway play John Proctor Is the Villain this spring.

The play is written by Kimberly Belflower, who is making her Broadway debut, and directed by Danya Taymor, who won a Tony Award for her direction of The Outsiders . Sink is best known for her role as Max Mayfield in Netflix’s Stranger Things , but has also appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale and Taylor Swift’s short film All Too Well . She previously appeared on Broadway in the 2012 revival of Annie as a standby for several lead roles and as young Elizabeth in The Audience .

John Proctor Is the Villain will begin performances March 20, 2025 at the Booth Theatre, with an opening night set for April 14.

The play is a comedy that follows a high school in Georgia, where an English class is studying The Crucible. The students are more caught up in their own love lives and scandals, but eventually begin to push back on the idea of John Proctor as the hero of the play.

The creative team includes scenic design by AMP featuring Teresa Williams, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, projection design by Hannah Wasileski, movement direction by Tilly Evans-Krueger, intimacy coordination by Ann James, voice / dialect coaching by Gigi Buffington and casting by Taylor Williams.

Sue Wagner, John Johnson and John Mara Jr . are producing.
