IDW is going dark. The indie publisher is teaming up with Paramount to bring some of the studio’s properties to comic books via a new imprint called IDW Dark.

These will be new stories set in the world of hit franchises such as A Quiet Place , Smile , The Twilight Zone , Sleepy Hollow and Event Horizon . The imprint will also include sequels to IDW titles such as 30 Days of Night and Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.

Creative teams and other details will be announced at another date, but books are expected to start rolling out in 2025.

The move comes as Parker Finn’s Smile 2 arrives in theaters today as a followup to the $217.4 million hit. It follows A Quiet Place: Day One ‘s bow earlier this year, which expanded on the franchise’s lore beyond the pair of John Krasinski films.

“This imprint is our way of doubling down on the work IDW has been doing throughout our 25-year history as a premier publisher of horror comics,” said Maggie Howell, group editor at IDW, who added, “These are dream projects for talent and editors, and we’re all committed to putting our best foot forward as we expand these worlds.”

Added Davidi Jonas, CEO of IDW Media Holdings: “Horror has a committed audience that courts feeling alive through dread, suspense, terror, pain, relief, ecstasy, joy. As a business, horror is budget friendly to expand beyond print — giving fans a higher likelihood of ongoing engagement with cherished titles and characters. Lastly, horror, like other iconic elements of popular culture, has its own season. Just as certain traditions stay in our memories, we look forward to returning each year to evoke those feelings of fear, anxiety, and adrenaline that make fans feel truly alive.”
