Disney+ Picks Up Prince William Documentary in Royal Streaming War

America now has a choice, when it comes to behind-the-scenes access to royals on their streaming platforms.

Netflix Adds New Feature That Makes It Easy to Share Clips From Shows on Social Media

In a notable acquisition, Disney+ has picked up a two-part documentary featuring Prince William, in which the Prince of Wales and heir to the throne launches his Royal Foundation’s Homewards program, which seeks to end homelessness in the U.K.

The doc, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness , follows the Prince of Wales as he and the Homewards program embark on their mission to end homelessness, across six locations in the U.K. with the Prince ultimately opting to build supported housing on his own land.

It will debut on Disney+ Nov. 1, and is set to air first on ITV in the U.K. Prince William: We Can End Homelessness is executive produced by Mindhouse and Arron Fellows and directed by BAFTA award-winning Director Leo Burley.

The doc has already made news in the U.K., as it includes William speaking publicly about his brother Prince Harry for the first time in years, recalling a moment when their mother, Princess Diana, took them to a homeless centre in London.

“My mother took me to The Passage [the homeless shelter], she took Harry and I both there. I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10,” William said in the clip. “I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious about what to expect.”

Prince Harry, of course, has moved to the U.S., where he lives with his wife, Meghan Markle. The duo have a film and TV output deal with Netflix, where they have been featured in a docuseries, and produce other programming. They also had an audio deal with Spotify, though that deal was not renewed last year.

With Prince William on Disney+, American consumers will have their choice of royals to watch on different streaming platforms.
