Charlotte Squawks: Pop Culture, Politics, Satire and Musical Parodies

    2021-08-30

CHARLOTTE, NC - After not being able to hold the show last year, Charlotte Squawks is playing again at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Booth Playhouse. The show is available for you to see through September 12.

“A show poking fun at Charlotte, pop culture & politics with satire and musical parodies running Aug. 18 – Sept. 12, 2021.” is how the co-creators Brian Kahn and Mike Collins describe Charlotte Squawks.

This year's show once again features the highly esteemed On Nextdoor and You Had a Bad Day parodies. Apart from that, according to Kahn, this year's materials are 99.7 percent fresh.

On a more serious note, the show talks about the racial justice movement sparked by George Floyd's death through a take on Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. It was such a monumental moment, Kahn explained, that the teams felt the urge to bring it to the show, setting aside the humor on this particular part.

Complementing the new materials are the new cast members who play alongisde the old, more familiar ones. The show received a lot of positive feedbacks on its opening weekend.

Charlotte Squawks follows the local safety and health protocols in each show, and all crew, cast, and staff are fully vaccinated.

"We are committed to keeping the audience safe. We are following all local guidelines including the mask mandate. In addition, the facility has state-of-the-art air-replacement filtration and all cast, crew and staff are fully vaccinated." said Kahn.

You can the tickets to see the show at carolinatix.org. More information is available on the Blumenthal Performing Arts website.
