Steve Dymond “insisted” his GP wrote him a letter to say he was no longer depressed or taking his mental health medication so that he could go on The Jeremy Kyle Show, an inquest into his death has heard.

Steve Dymond , 63, died of an overdose and heart problem in a suspected suicide at his home in Portsmouth seven days after filming for the ITV show in May 2019.

Mr Dymond failed a lie detector test he took for the show after being accused of cheating on his ex-fiancee Jane Callaghan.

Giving evidence on the second day of the hearing on Wednesday, Dr Rehman said Mr Dymond had an appointment with him the month before recording, “insisting that he should get the letter”.

The GP told Winchester Coroners’ Court he explained to Mr Dymond that he was depressed, but the 63-year-old countered that he was merely upset after separating from his fiancee, who he was subsequently back together with, and no longer want to take his anti-depressants because “he wanted to go on a TV show”.
