Noticeably cooler conditions are expected across the UK over the coming days after some areas experienced a weekend washout.

Temperatures will struggle to reach higher than the mid-teens by Wednesday as blustery showers arrive with a cold northerly wind, the Met Office said.

There may also be a chance of frost in some areas.

Cloud and rain will affect eastern and north-western parts of England on Monday, with dry and bright conditions elsewhere, the forecaster said.

A band of low pressure will then move across the country on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain followed by blustery, scattered showers.

The forecast will remain much the same for Wednesday but temperatures will feel much chillier in all areas, with highs of 16C predicted in south-west England.

Thursday will again see temperatures struggle with further showers, but winds will ease later in the day.

Some bright or sunny spells may finally appear by Friday with generally drier conditions, but it will remain on the cool for the time of year, the Met Office added.
