Kayakers and snorkelers exploring the Southern California coast spotted an extremely rare oarfish, nicknamed a "doomsday fish" since they are seen in some parts of the world as harbingers of imminent disasters. Horrifying video footage captured an Australian surfer desperately trying to get to shore seconds before being mauled by a great white shark that ripped off his leg.

Kai McKenzie, 23, can be seen furiously paddling toward the New South Wales beach, only for a massive gray fin to emerge from the water just behind his board, the video obtained by the Sun showed.



The great white, estimated to be 10 feet long, bit through a chunk of McKenzie’s board — and ripped off his right leg, which later washed up ashore.

A fishing-themed social media site on Saturday shared a “throwback” image showing an angler posing with the head of a large yellowfin tuna.
BDOutdoors’ Instagram description was somewhat predictable: “Paying his dues to the local taxman,” followed by a shark emoji.
The image was captured at Mexico’s Guadalupe Island before the designated biosphere reserve was ordered closed to sportfishing and commercial shark diving.
The taxman, undoubtedly, was a great white shark.
