Ambassadors Clubhouse has the self-assurance of an only child with therapists for parents. From the people behind Gymkhana, Brigadiers, and Bibi, it’s been set up for success—and delivers. There isn’t a single detail that hasn’t been considered at this sprawling Indian spot in Mayfair. Everything from the warm service the moment you enter, to the shiny mirrored room downstairs that plays desi banger after banger. This is a fun restaurant.

The main dining room is a lively mix between bar seating (the stools will avoid any lower back pain) and brown leather booths. Although the covered, heated verandah is one of our favourite places to tuck into the chunky tandoor lamb nalli barrah. Downstairs is a whole different story—it’s like an over-stimulating, tiger print and reflective surface-filled, sexy version of the ground floor, that we’d choose every time for a fun group that doesn't mind speaking up over the music.

Dishes are described as ‘sharing plates’, and the portions aren’t the sad single bite you expect when hearing those dreaded words leave a server's mouth. Instead the refreshing beetroot chaat is big enough that we wondered where we'd stuff the mains, and BBQ butter chicken chops can be shared—although the silky, flavourful sauce made us want it all for ourselves. The goat sliders are the kind of cute little thing you’ll want to pose alongside, before devouring in two, deeply satisfying bites, and the rich lamb curry is a standout. Bring numbers, order the lot, and settle in.

    Beetroot Raj Kachori Chaat

This vegetarian dish is exactly the kind of yoghurt-heavy, crispy nylon sev-topped starter you need to prepare you for the heavy sauces and meats on the rest of the menu.

Patiala Prawn Pakode, Hari Aam Chutney

Perfectly fried, golden prawns that are good but not memorable. Skip it so you can try more of the other dishes.

    Original BBQ Butter Chicken Chops

Salty, creamy, moreish. We need the velvety sauce from these butter chicken chops on everything.

Shahi Patiala Lamb Nalli Barrah, Lacha Pyaz

Blackened and charred on the outside, this lamb dish, with a mix of chops and shanks is a must-order. Our favourite part is the shank that’s perfectly pink inside and melts in your mouth.

Goat Shami Kebab Bun, Lahori Chutney

Points for cuteness. Points for the perfect yolk drip. And points for the potatoey goat patty that we love as a slider but would love even more if it came in a bigger size.

    Matka Beliram Lamb Curry

The huge pieces of lamb swimming around are softer than a mattress at the Four Seasons. And the rich, thick gravy on this curry is equally perfect for mopping up with some garlic naan as it is drizzled over a fragrant biryani.

    Masaledar Lamb Biryani

The fried onion, carrots, and raisins on top of this biryani give the perfect texture in each bite. And the soft, chunky pieces of lamb throughout make this a dish we’d happily eat alone—with the refreshing yoghurt raita of course.

Truly excellent: An 8 should be on your must-try list, because 8s are great. These spots are worth making an effort or crossing town for.
