( Jan. 29, 2024 ) A new fine-arts scholarship for Nantucket High School graduates is available through the Community Foundation for Nantucket. Called the Shredder’s Studio Art Scholarship, it was created in memory of Kathleen Duncombe, a longtime island artist, volunteer and owner of the Made on Nantucket gallery.

When she wasn’t creating art or running her gallery, Duncombe taught art classes to children in her Shredder’s Studio and the elderly at the Saltmarsh Senior Center.

Applicants eligible for the scholarship are past or present Nantucket High School graduates who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in fine arts including visual arts, painting, drawing, film, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry making, graphic design or another discipline.

The scholarship will be awarded to students over the course of their higher education careers who continue to be in good academic standing. To find out more and apply, visit cfnan.org/scholarships .
