    UPDATE 2/16/24:

In the latest forecast update, Northern Virginia residents are urged to prepare for a significant winter weather event. The National Weather Service (NWS) has recently issued a winter storm warning for western Loudoun and winter weather advisories for the remainder of Northern Virginia. This caution comes ahead of an approaching Clipper system anticipated to bring heavy snowfall overnight.

Specifically, the storm warning is now in effect for western Loudoun, starting from 11 p.m. tonight and extending until 7 a.m. Saturday. The NWS predicts a substantial snowfall of up to 8 inches in this region.

According to the weather service, the areas with the highest snowfall totals are expected to be under heavier snow bands, particularly at elevations above 1,000 feet.

In addition, a winter weather advisory has been issued for several Northern Virginia counties, including Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, and Fauquier. This advisory is effective from 11 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. Saturday. The forecast for these areas anticipates total snow accumulations ranging from 3 to 5 inches, with localized totals possibly reaching up to 8 inches.

Residents in these regions are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions as they prepare for the approaching winter storm.

As winter maintains its grip on the Mid-Atlantic region, residents in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area are gearing up for another round of potential snowfall this Presidents Day weekend. Following a recent dusting of snow in some northern and western areas earlier this week, the Capital Weather Gang predicts a new chance for snow to usher in the long weekend.

While not expected to be a major storm, forecasts suggest the possibility of a few inches of snow overnight from Friday into Saturday. Colder regions north and west of D.C. might have better chances for accumulating snow, as a sustained period of moderate snowfall could cool temperatures sufficiently for accumulation. However, the outcome remains uncertain, as lighter and intermittent snowfall might lead to warmer temperatures, limiting accumulation potential and possibly causing precipitation to mix with rain, especially in the southern and eastern areas.

AccuWeather anticipates the D.C. metropolitan area receiving 1 to 3 inches of snow, with the possibility of mixed precipitation in southern regions near Richmond. Despite the potential for snow, forecasters caution against high expectations due to relatively warm temperatures. Saturday's high could reach above 40 degrees, with Friday night lows just hitting freezing.

The National Weather Service's forecast for the region includes mostly sunny conditions on Thursday, a sunny Friday with a slight chance of precipitation at night, and the likelihood of snow on Saturday morning, followed by blustery conditions. Sunday and Presidents Day are expected to be sunny with gradually rising temperatures.

As residents prepare for the upcoming weather, it's advisable to stay tuned to updated forecasts and prepare for possible winter conditions over the holiday weekend.
