The tragic loss of a young mother has left the Woodbridge community reeling, as authorities seek answers in a heartbreaking hit-and-run incident. On the night of February 24, Carla Andrea Mejia, affectionately known as Casey, lost her life while crossing Minnieville Road outside Dale City. She was just 27 years old, leaving behind two young daughters and a shattered family.

Prince William County police responded to a call at 11:37 p.m. reporting an unconscious female near Minnieville and Bobcat Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mejia's lifeless body. The investigation unveiled a grim sequence of events: Mejia was walking in the westbound lane of Minnieville Road, clad in dark clothing, when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver callously fled the scene, leaving Mejia to perish alone on the roadside.

Emergency services pronounced Mejia dead at the scene, leaving a void in the lives of her loved ones. Investigators, determined to bring justice to Mejia and her family, identified vehicle parts believed to belong to a 2009-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV or 2009-2013 Kia Sorento SUV. The vehicle is likely silver or light in color, with noticeable damage to the front end, wheel well, and/or undercarriage areas.

As the community grapples with this senseless tragedy, authorities have announced a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Mejia's grieving family, highlighting the immense impact of her untimely death.
