A new Tesla dealership is set to transform the James Madison Marketplace in Haymarket, Virginia, with a projected investment of $17 million. The Prince William Planning Commission unanimously approved a special use permit for the dealership during their September 11 meeting. Spanning 50,215 square feet, the dealership will occupy a 7.9-acre site just west of Home Depot, providing ample space with over 300 surface parking spots.

The developer behind this ambitious project is an affiliate of Pavilion Development Co., based in Charlotte, North Carolina. While the proposal has yet to reach the Board of County Supervisors' agenda, there is already significant anticipation surrounding the dealership's potential impact on the local economy. According to Jonelle Cameron, an attorney representing Pavilion, the dealership's parking design caters to both online orders and vehicle maintenance services, a reflection of Tesla’s innovative sales model.

“The parking tabulation is based on the needs for both online orders and vehicle servicing,” Cameron explained. “Customers can order their Tesla online, select a pickup location, and benefit from dedicated delivery spaces on-site.” This operational model underscores Tesla’s emphasis on a seamless customer experience.

In 2023, the project was granted “Target Industry Status” by the county's Department of Economic Development, allowing for expedited permitting. This initiative is expected to create approximately 65 full-time equivalent jobs, contributing to the local economy. According to the Washington Business Journal, this dealership will be the second-largest in the D.C. area, following the company’s location in Tysons.

As the site is currently listed for sale by Divaris Real Estate Inc., potential investors see this as a unique opportunity for stable income with Tesla as an anchor tenant, positioned for sustained growth in the vibrant Haymarket market.
