    Week 1 Roundup: Bluffton, May River win big. Hilton Head Prep snaps losing streak

    A roundup of Thursday and Friday’s high school football action in the Hilton Head area:

    May River 34, Airport 13

    Quarterback Tanner Macy had three rushing touchdowns as the Sharks defeated the Eagles.

    Andrew Jackson also had a TD run for May River.

    Bluffton 57, Whale Branch 0

    Aedan McCarthy threw six touchdown passes as the Bobcats rolled past the Warriors in the season opener.

    Carnell Warren caught four of McCarthy’s touchdown passes. Nathan Ulmer and Roman Benjamin also had TD catches.

    Kaleb Gadson and Jacobi Saunders! Each had defensive touchdowns for the Bobcats

    Fort Dorchester 28, Beaufort 21

    Ryan Campbell ran for two touchdowns, including the game-winner with less than a minute left as the Patriots defeated the Eagles.

    Beaufort trailed 21-14 but tied it on Samari Bonds’ TD pass to Amare Patterson with less than four minutes left. Bonds had two TD passes to Patterson.

    Hilton Head Prep 19, St. Andrew’s 13

    The Dolphins snapped their 23-game losing streak and won the debut of new coach Doug McFadden.

    It was HHP’s first win since defeating Northwood on Oct. 15, 2021. The Dolphins are now 1-1 on the season.

    Hilton Head Christian 17, Battery Creek 7

    The Eagles bounced back from its season-opening loss to Porter-Gaud and defeated the Dolphins.

    Hardeeville 48, Bethune-Bowman 6

    Hardeeville was dominant in winning on the road against Bethune-Bowman.

    Ridgeland 30, Eau Claire 6

    Ridgeland went on the road to defeat the Shamrocks on Friday night.

    Thomas Heyward 41, Bethesda Academy 20

    Joshua Gibson returned two kickoffs for touchdowns as the Rebels defeated the Blazers in a matchup of two SCISA powerhouses.

    Tony O’Banner ran for two scores and THA returned two interceptions for touchdowns by Donovan Robinson and Colten Wilson.

    Thursday

    Hilton Head Island 65, Stall 0

    Quarterback Derrick Ranisaewski threw two touchdowns and ran for one in Hilton Head’s season-opening win.

    Thomas Czarnecki rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns and receiver Carson Haines caught five passes for 55 yards and two scores.

    On defense, Andrew Massey had eight tackles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and scored a TD.

    Laurence Manning 54, John Paul II 25

    Alan Wolf had a TD pass to Tommy Gehm and Bryant Jolley had a TD run in the Warriors’ loss.
