MURFREESBORO – Brent McNeal apologized to his South Side girls basketball team Thursday night after he was ejected from its TSSAA girls basketball state tournament game.

McNeal was ejected from Thursday's 59-47 loss to Dyersburg at MTSU's Murphy Center.

"I apologized to the girls in the locker room for how the game ended," McNeal said after the game.

At the time of McNeal's ejection, Dyersburg was leading, 54-47 with 1:11 remaining

McNeal said he was asking for an explanation to a ruling made in the fourth quarter and became increasingly agitated when he could not get one.

McNeal was first issued a technical foul with 3:21 left in the fourth quarter after appearing to yell in the direction of the public address announcer and scorekeeper to draw the first technical foul.

McNeal later received a second technical foul following a timeout with 1:11 to play in the game and was ejected from the game.

By TSSAA rules, McNeal must sit out the first two games next season and is subject to a $250 fine. He can appeal the ejection.
