    West Tennessee's best highlight Jackson area girls athlete of the week for May 13-18

    The TSSAA state tournament is here. The Jackson area will be well-represented in Murfreesboro this year.

    Before the tournament begins, it's time to look back at the last week and vote for the Jackson area girls athlete of the week!

    Congratulations to USJ softball's Taylar Shands, who won last week's poll with 852 of 1,450 votes (58.8%).

    Fans are able to vote once per hour. The poll closes at 5 p.m., Thursday.

    Here are the nominees for this week's poll.

    Lilly McGee, Bruceton softball: McGee notched five hits, four runs and three RBI from the leadoff spot to help put the Tigers back into the TSSAA state tournament.

    Maddie Claire Wilkerson, Dyer County softball: Wilkerson delivered a two-run double in the 10th inning of Saturday’s sectional win over Brighton and struck out five in 8 1/3 innings to lead Dyer County back to the TSSAA state tournament.

    Kelby Crossno, Huntingdon softball: Crossno drove in both runs for the Fillies’ 2-0 victory in the sectional game against Summertown on Friday to put the Fillies back in the state tournament.

    Shay Hollingsworth, Lexington softball: Hollingsworth totaled three hits and two RBIs, including a home run, in the Tigers’ 8-2 win over Greenbrier to put Lexington back in the state tournament.

    Lauren Ruehl, Riverside softball: Ruehl hit a home run and racked up seven strikeouts in a one-hit complete game in the Panthers’ 14-0 win over Lakeland Prep to put Riverside in the state tournament.

    Hallie Allen, South Gibson softball: Allen hit a home run in the Hornets’ 13-4 sectional win over Munford as part of a three-hit, two-RBI night.

    Emerson Fair, USJ softball: In the finale of a three-game substate series, Fair pitched a one-hit complete game shutout with five strikeouts. She retired the last 13 batters she faced and helped the offense with two hits and a run.

    Addie Roberts, Westview softball: Roberts had five RBIs in the Chargers’ sectional game victory over Trezevant with two hits, including a two-run triple.
