The Jackson Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out Block Party at the JPD Headquarters at 234 Institute Street in downtown Jackson from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Oct. 1.

The event featured a movie on the lawn, hot dogs, hamburgers, food trucks, life-size games, music, and vendors.

According to the Jackson police website, “National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention in local anti-crime programs, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.”

The event also sends a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and focused on taking their neighborhoods back from the criminal element, the website says.

The Jackson Police Department requested that residents get involved by turning on their porch lights and having a block party in their neighborhoods.

The JPD National Night Out 2024 Block Party List for 2024 included: St. James Baptist Church (278 Preston Street), Macedonia Baptist Church (106 Glass Street), 411 Fairmont Street, 33 Copper Ridge Cove, Raleigh Place Park (Colonies of Raleigh Place), Agape Christian Fellowship Church (600 N. Parkway), 41 Barrett Place, 63 Maryville Cove, 800 Old Hickory Blvd 802, 72 Beechwood Dr, Progressive Baptist Church (230 Hollywood Dr.), Cove of Jeffrey Ct (9 Jeffrey Ct), 138 Crescent Ave, Evergreen Park (HOA), 366 Wellington Cove, 19 Forest Edge Cove, Palmer Woods Commons Area, 19 Wind Tree Cove, 201 McRee Street, 19 Tall Pines, 9 McCool Drive, and 31 Cannonhurst Cove.
