    Neuse Little Theatre presents Cannon Awards

    SMITHFIELD — The Neuse Little Theatre has presented its Cannon Awards for the 2023-24 season.

    Best Show of the Season went to “Willy Wonka,” directed by Shaun Braswell.

    This year’s acting award winners were:

    Tony Pender — Best Actor in a Leading Role for King Henry II in “The Lion in Winter.”

    Theressa Rose — Best Actress in a Leading Role for Bella Manningham in “Angel Street.”

    Larry Grey — Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Mayor Meekly in “Unnecessary Farce.”

    Marianna Morin — Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Nancy in “Angel Street.”

    Joyce Kilpatrick-Jordan — Best Performance in a Cameo Role for Elizabeth in “Angel Street.”

    Sheila Lane — Best Performance in a Cameo Role as Lucille Orton in “The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Spectacular.”

    The NLT presented the following special awards:

    Newcomer of the Year — Larry Grey.

    Out of the Limelight — the Sepulveda family.

    Above and Beyond — Carol Harper.

    Volunteer of the Year — Brenda Hartley.

    President’s Award — Theressa Rose.

    The community theater group also presented the following technical awards:

    Best Theatrical Special Effects — “Willy Wonka.”

    Best Hair & Makeup — “Willy Wonka.”

    Best Costume Design — “The Lion in Winter.”

    Best Sound — “Willy Wonka.”

    Best Lighting — “Willy Wonka.”

    Best Scenic Design — “The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Spectacular.”

    Best Direction — “The Lion in Winter.”

    Finally, the NLT awarded John B. Kolcum Scholarships to Brianna McDaniel and Megan Abigayle Jones, both students at East Carolina University.

    The Cannon Awards are named for the late Doris Cannon, a longtime NLT supporter. John  Kolcum was an NLT volunteer for many years.

    Season tickets are on sale for the NLT’s 50th anniversary season. NLT members chose the five shows that make up the golden anniversary season.
