Latino group marks first year with a celebration of numbers

Latinos Activate JoCo is celebrating its first anniversary by reviewing its numbers. Here’s a look at some of them:

• 23 — number of members in the volunteer group, which supports Latino residents by promoting education, health, advocacy and cultural heritage.

• 2,000 — hours that members volunteered in the group’s first year.

• 66,980 — the value, in dollars, of those volunteer hours.

• Two — meals for families in need.

• Five — families connected to legal support.

• 50 — people connected to interpreter services.

• 200 — dollars raised for a needy family.

• 250 — number of pediatric supplies delivered to families and food banks.

• 50 — tuition scholarships for children who attend My Kid’s Club.

• 92 — backpacks for children in My Kid’s Club.

• 100 — pencil cases provided for a community back-to-school event.

• 3,000 — value, in dollars, of in-kind donations to the club.

• 33,604.84 — dollars raised for group projects.

• 24,000.18 — dollars spent.

• 13,417 — lives impacted.

Also in its first year, the group hosted citizenship classes, staged the JoCo Latino Festival and made a presentation at the N.C. PTA Convention.
