ResourceOne to pay $47.5K in harassment lawsuit

TULSA Worldwide Printing and Distribution, Inc., doing business as ResourceOne, a Tulsa-based commercial printing and direct marketing company, will pay $47,500 and provide other relief to resolve a harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.

The EEOC's lawsuit, filed in August 2022, alleges that a ResourceOne supervisor harassed an employee after she revealed her ancestry from Cameroon and the Congo through an at-home DNA test. The supervisor repeatedly called her “ape” and “Congo,” and made other derogatory remarks. Despite the employee's requests to stop, the harassment continued, leading to her resignation. Following her departure, the supervisor sent her a text message using the same offensive terms.

The EEOC charged that ResourceOne's conduct violated the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which protect employees from discrimination and harassment based on genetic information, race, and national origin.

The consent decree settling the suit, effective through March 31, 2027, mandates that ResourceOne implement policies to prevent future discrimination, provide employee training and educate workers about their rights under GINA and Title VII.
