    Looking for something to do this weekend in the Freeport area? Here are 10 upcoming events

    The weekend brings live music, dancing, a 5K, Cruise Night and Antique Days to the Freeport area.

    Check out these upcoming events.

    Community Dance and Game Night

    What: Game night will be combined with a community dance. Music will cater to all ages, allowing you to dance to your heart's content or just sit back and watch the little ones. The dance is casual attire, but children are welcome to dress up as their favorite superhero. Attendees may move back and forth between both areas or choose to attend one or the other. All children must be supervised by a responsible person.

    When: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9

    Where: St. John UCC, 1010 S. Park Blvd., Freeport

    Cost: Game night is free but suggested donation is $10 for the dance

    Huge

    What: Huge will be playing in the bar at the Freeport Eagles Club. Come early to get a bite to eat. Open to the Public

    When: 7-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9

    Where: Freeport Eagles Club, 1200 W. Galena Ave., Freeport

    Music on the Patio

    What: Silver Alert will perform. Enjoy entertainment, food and adult beverages. For all ages.

    When: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9

    Where: Park Hills Golf Course, 3240 W. Stephenson St., Freeport

    Cost: Free admission

    Lincoln Douglas 5K

    What: The Lincoln-Douglas 5K, One-Mile Fun Run and Kids Races, in partnership with the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois, combines a fast, competitive 5K race with a one-mile Fun Run and a series of Kids Races that ultimately crowns the "Fastest Kid in Town." The race starts and ends near the statue of Abraham Lincoln, the Debater. The course consists of three loops around the historic paved road inside Taylor Park, a 5K (3.1 miles), wheel-measured, certified course that is flat and fast designed to help you achieve a personal best. The one-mile fun run involves one loop of the 5k course. The back-up location is The Family YMCA on HCC Campus.

    When: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10

    PAWS to Read

    What: Visit the library and read a story to a pup from Therapy Dogs International.

    When: 11 a.m. – noon Saturday, Aug. 10

    Where: Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas St., Freeport

    Cost: Free

    Freeport Cruise Night

    What: Hot rods, rat rods, street rods, muscle cars, antiques, coupes, convertibles, sedans, trucks, motorcycles and station wagons will all be part of this year’s Cruise Night in Downtown Freeport. Enthusiastic car collectors from across the Midwest will gather to showcase unique vehicles and admire others' prized possessions. Expect to do some walking and make sure you bring a camera. Cars will be on display in several lots and on city streets throughout the downtown area. Souvenir shirts will be on sale at the information booth. The event begins with the opening of the food court. Davis & Company will perform. There will also be a family fun area. The cruising starts at 6 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m.

    When: 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10

    Where: Downtown Freeport, 19 S. Chicago Ave., Freeport

    Walk with a Doc

    What: This family- and pet-friendly walk and chat will be led by FHN Foundation Director Al Evon. He'll talk about how the Foundation helps improve healthcare in communities and share information about upcoming events. Meet by the concession stand for this safe, fun way to get some steps, learn about health and meet new friends. No registration is required, but sign in at each walk to be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to Brown's Shoe Fit Co.

    When: 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10

    Where: Krape Park, 1799 Park Blvd., Freeport

    Cost: Free

    Winslow Antique Days

    What: Winslow celebrates Antique Days with a variety of activities with special food items each day, along with vendors, live music and kids activities. Fever River String Band will play from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. No Worries will play from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Sunday outside the Winslow Museum; this is also where the food stand is. Bring the little ones to enjoy the tractor (train) ride, kiddy tractor pull and other fun events. The homemade ice cream is always a big hit.

    When: 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11

    Where: 606 Bridge St., Winslow

    Summer Open House

    What: Summer Open house of the Fever River Railroad model train club hosts its summer open house. Fever River is a HO scale model train club that has been operating since the mid-60s.

    When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11

    Where: Fever River Railroad/Stephenson Society of Model Trainmen, 1055 W. Beach St., Freeport

    Baldylocks Rocks Customer Service Day

    What: BaldyLocks, the duo of Louis and Naomi, will perform many of your favorite classic rock tunes. The entertainment will be performing outdoors (weather pending) at the platform near the tiki bar, where drinks will be served as well. Food will also be provided. The crew at BDB would like to thank you all for your wonderful business.

    When: 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11

    Monday Murders Book Club: Read Your Own

    What: Read whatever mystery or mysteries or suspense titles you like and share your thoughts with the group. Everyone welcome for this book group. No registration.

    When: 1-2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12

    Where: Board room, Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas St., Freeport

    Cost: Free

    Pretzel City Barbershop Grand Opening

    What: Greater Freeport Partnership and the barber shop host grand opening, with ribbon cutting. After the ribbon cutting, barbers will take on customers and mingle to get acquainted. Snacks and drinks will be available.

    When: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13

    Where: Pretzel City Barbershop, 16 S. Chicago Ave., Freeport

    Ice Cream Social

    What: Have some fun, food and relaxation. Tickets available in the church office.

    When: Wednesday, Aug. 14

    Where: St. John UCC, 1010 S. Park Blvd., Freeport

    Cost: $7 for barbecue or hot dog, chips, pasta salad and drink; $5 for pie or cake, ice cream and drink

    Community Block Party

    What: Free community block party. Food, music, bounce house, school supplies, back to school haircuts for kids, crafts and more. Everyone is welcome.

    When: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14

    Where: Faith United Methodist Church, 1440 S. Walnut Ave., Freeport

    Cost: Free

    Business After Hours

    What: After three years of construction and two years of refining the space, Phase 1 of the Exchange’s project is finally complete. See the changes, network with other local professionals, enjoy food and drink from Hilldale Deli and get a peek into what’s next for The Exchange.

    When: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15

    Where: The Exchange, 223 S. Chicago Ave., Freeport
