A 73-year-old man pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend and wheeling her body past a security camera before dumping it in an alley, officials said.

David Leonard Harvey, of St. Louis, pleaded guilty Aug. 8 to second-degree murder, abandonment of a corpse, evidence tampering and burglary in the August 11, 2022, killing of 63-year-old Carolyn Jenkins, according to a news release from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.

Harvey was sentenced to 20 years in prison, court records show.

At the plea hearing, Harvey asked Jenkins’ family for forgiveness to which they replied, “That’s between you and God,” KSDK reported.

McClatchy News reached out to Harvey’s attorney Aug. 9 for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Harvey and Jenkins were in a relationship and were also neighbors at the Metropolitan Village Apartments, according to a Dec. 27 lawsuit filed on behalf of Jenkins’ family initially obtained by KSDK.

After the relationship ended, Harvey repeatedly harassed Jenkins, illegally entered her apartment using a key given to him by building management and went through her personal belongings, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit cites a “lack of action by management” despite Jenkins filing numerous complaints and a police report against Harvey.

Surveillance video from the night of Jenkins’ killing shows her entering her apartment, Harvey rushing in behind her, then leaving shortly after, officials said.

Footage from about 2 a.m. the next morning shows Harvey and an accomplice, alleged in the lawsuit to be a worker at the apartment, wheeling Jenkins’ body out on a dolly and onto an elevator, according to officials.

Police responded a few days laterfor a wellness check requested by Jenkins’ family and found her apartment “in disarray with blood on the floor,” officials said.

Jenkins’ body was found on August 17, 2022, in an alley, according to the lawsuit.

Metropolitan Village Apartments, managed by Sansone Group, LLC, and Anthony’s Empire Security, LLC, which provided security for the apartments, were named as defendants in the lawsuit.

McClatchy News reached out for comment to the defendants Aug. 9 but did not immediately hear back.
